Other Uses for Corian©
We know that Corian© makes a great material for countertops. What other uses are there for Corian© besides countertops? There are other uses for Corian© besides the obvious countertop slabs that people use to prepare their food on. Let’s look at some other places where Corian© can be used in the home.
Corian© backsplashes
You can use the same material that you use for your countertop to create a classy backsplash for your countertops. Backsplashes are very popular and quickly becoming the standard in homes across the USA. They look great as an extension of a beautiful countertop material. A Corian© backsplash will also do what the name says. It will provide protection from splashing sauces, spills, and splatters. A new Corian© backsplash will make your Corian© countertops more complete and attractive, aesthetically, and functionally. It will decrease your cleanup load and keep your kitchen cleaner all around.
Corian© Shower Base
Is it possible to use Corian© as a shower base?
Yes it is. Corian© as a shower base is a great material and a wise choice to install. One thing it will do is allow you to avoid using grout in the shower. Grout can get nasty in the shower and can be a real pain to keep clean. It tends to get dirty, moldy, and brown when it is constantly facing the pressures of being wet. If you put grout in your shower it will need to be cleaned regularly and it’s not an easy clean. We’ve all seen the infomercials for the “magic” cleaner that cleans dirty grout between tiles with “a quick spray and the gentle swipe of a sponge.” It’s a lot more involved than spraying a magic cleaning solution and rinsing away the grime.
Many people choose to install Corian© shower bases even when they choose to install granite or natural stone in their shower. It is not wise and can be against standard building code to put a smooth surface like granite or natural stone on the base of one’s shower. It is too smooth a surface and would be dangerous to stand on in the shower.
Is Corian© too slippery too use as a shower base? Isn’t Corian© just as smooth as stone?
Corian© is slick and might not be safe without first roughing up the surface. This can be done with a matter blaster. This is similar to a sandblaster but it does use sand. This will make the surface rough to the touch but will not change the Corian©’s appearance.
